Hazardous Waste Management

The storage of hazardous waste (B3) is carried out to prevent the release of hazardous materials into the environment, thereby minimizing potential risks to human health and the ecosystem. Temporary storage activities for hazardous waste comply with Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation (Permen LHK) No. 6 of 2021 concerning Procedures and Requirements for the Management of Hazardous and Toxic Waste (B3).

The maximum storage period for B3 waste is determined based on the volume and category of waste generated, as follows: 90 days from the date the B3 waste is generated, for waste production of 50 kg per day or more. 180 days from the date the B3 waste is generated, for Category 1 B3 waste generated in amounts less than 50 kg per day. 365 days from the date the B3 waste is generated, for Category 2 B3 waste generated in amounts less than 50 kg per day, either from non-specific sources, general specific sources, or special specific sources.

Hazardous waste stored at the B3 Temporary Storage Facility (TPS B3) is subsequently transported and processed further by third-party contractors that are officially licensed by the relevant authorities.

To ensure emergency preparedness, the TPS B3 facility is equipped with an Emergency Response Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), fire extinguishers (APAR), alarms, first aid kits, evacuation routes, wind socks, handwashing stations, eyewash stations, safety showers, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
